Arashi members also treasure their fans. You’re always considering what it means “for the fans”.

But that’s only natural. I talk about this a lot with the other members. Let’s say, for example, that you go to some artist’s concert and it was boring. You’d think, “I wouldn’t give my money to come see something like this.” In that sense, the “the worth of something” is incredibly important. We argued quite a bit over the price of our newest album, “Boku no Miteiru Fuukei”. There are twenty songs and a booklet; initially, we were told a higher price than what we ended up selling them for. But we Arashi members said, “That’s too expensive” and “I’d just borrow it instead”. Because after the album is the tour where the fans buy concert goods… that’s already set and known. Knowing that, paying such amount for the album was not feasible. In the end, that’s why the price became 3,800 yen. Moreover, we’re thankful that both the record label and the management let us have it our way.

We’re surprised to hear that amidst your busy schedule, you all got together to discuss the price of your album [laugh]. Do you not think about your own profits when it comes to this?

If we’re speaking extremes, if we continued to raise prices, we’d bring in more profits, but hm… I don’t think that’s necessarily right. We believe that the reason our fans work hard should not be so that they “can afford to buy Arashi stuff”. If it helps motivate them to work harder, then it’s fine, but that shouldn’t become the main reason. The money someone earns should be invested in themselves. We’d rather that Arashi be a part of each fan’s everyday life.
